Zinnias

I started some of these seeds a few months ago. The foliage was green and the leaves thick. I thought for sure these were Borage! So I took extra good care of them seeing as I thought they were my only Borage that seeded..I transplanted them into a hanging basket and put them in a safe spot in the gazebo. Seeing as I thought they were Borage and curious what the leaves tasted like (I read you can eat the whole Borage plant) I tried some. They didn’t really taste the same as the other Borage leaves I ate on the other plants.

See I thought that my Borage were all Foxgloves as the leaves started off looking the same. And as I knew Foxgloves are poisonous I didn’t dare try them. Then we were looking at a plant one night and decided it must be bolting Foxglove because it looked like it was going to flower soon but we hadn’t seen those kind of flower pods before on any of our other Foxgloves.

I did a bit of research and found that that plant wasn’t a Foxglove it was a Borage! So we tried the leaves and wow were we blown away! Such a great Cucumber taste!

Back to the other “Borage” plant. I had been watching it grow and then one day it started to show signs that it will be blossoming soon! I was a bit curious at why this “Borage” was looked different than my other Borages. Then it blossomed, and it was a yellow flower! Well Borage certainly didn’t produce yellow flowers! So we thought it must be a weed. So I neglected it for a few days, didn’t give it water and today I saw a pink flower on it! Well weeds don’t generally blossom pink and yellow..then I thought about what I planted..the only thing I could think of was a Zinnia! What do you know, that’s what it ended up being! I watered it after I found this out and here are a few photos of the blooms :)
